Green Bank Telescope Observations of 3He+: Planetary Nebulae

چکیده

We use the Green Bank Telescope to search for $^3He^+$ emission from a sample of four Galactic planetary nebulae: NGC 3242, 6543, 6826, and 7009. During era primordial nucleosynthesis light elements $^2H$, $^3He$, $^4He$, $^7Li$ were produced in significant amounts these abundances have since been modified primarily by stars. Observations H II regions located throughout Milky Way disk reveal very little variation $^3He/H$ abundance ratio -- "$^3He$ Plateau" indicating that net effect $^3He$ production stars is negligible. This contrast much higher ratios reported some nebulae. discrepancy known as Problem". radio recombination lines observed simultaneously with transition make robust assessment spectral sensitivity observations achieve. detect at $\sim$ 1 2 mK intensities, but levels instrumental effects compromise our ability measure accurate line parameters. do not confirm reports previous detections 3242 nor we any sources. result calls into question all nebula. Irac Observations of Planetary Nebulae

We present the initial results from the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) imaging survey of planetary nebulae (PN). The IRAC colors of PN are red, especially when considering the 8.0 μm band. Emission in this band is likely due to contributions from two strong H2 lines and a [Ar III] line in that bandpass. IRAC is sensitive to the emission in the halos as well as in the ionized regions that are opti...

The Green Bank Telescope

Following two months of very successful commissioning and the first science observations on the GBT (see the following articles), operation was suspended in early April, one month earlier than planned, to work on the azimuth track. As described in previous NRAO Newsletters, the azimuth track wear strips, on which the azimuth wheels roll, were shifting slightly in a circumferential direction as ...

Maser Observations of Planetary Nebulae Precursors

We present OH maser observations at 1612, 1665, 1667, and 1720 MHz for 86 post-asymptotic giant branch (post-AGB) stars selected from a survey of 1612 MHz maser sources in the Galactic Plane. The observations were taken with the Parkes Telescope and the Australia Telescope Compact Array between 2002 September and 2003 August. Post-AGB stars are the precursors to planetary nebulae, the diverse m...

Molecular Line Observations of Proto-planetary Nebulae

We present our recent results on mm-wave CO observations of proto-planetary nebulae. These include high-resolution interferometric maps of various CO lines in three well known bipolar PPNe: M 1–92, M 2–56 and OH 231.8+4.2. The global properties of the high velocity molecular emission in post-AGB sources have been also studied, by means of high-sensitivity single dish observations of the J=1–0 a...

Hubble space telescope expansion parallaxes of the planetary nebulae

We have combined two epochs of Hubble Space Telescope WFPC2 imaging data with ground-based expansion velocities to determine distances to three planetary nebulae (NGC 6578, NGC 6884, and IC 2448). We used two variants of the expansion parallax technique—a gradient method and a magnification method— to determine the distances. The results from the two methods agree to within the errors. A fourth...
